Miguel Angel Leaman is ProMéxico's Executive Director for International Business Models. He participates in the promotion of services in support of the international expansion of Mexican companies, coordinating ProMéxico's efforts to strengthen Mexican capabilities to compete abroad; to develop and update ProMéxico's strategic instruments in support of Mexican firms' investment projects overseas.
Before joining ProMéxico, Miguel was the Minister for Trade Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C. and held previous posts as Economic Counselor and Assistant Commercial Counselor at the Embassy, and as Bancomext and ProMéxico's representative in Chicago. Miguel has worked for the Government of Mexico since 1974 in both the Treasury and Commerce Departments. He has served in such posts as Deputy Director for Bilateral Trade Negotiations, Head of the Office of Safeguards, and Coordinator for the Unit of International Economic Information.
During the past four decades, Miguel has participated in international meetings as a member of the Mexican delegations to international trade fora, including the Mexico-United States Joint Commission of Commerce and Trade, the Special Commission on Trade of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Framework Agreement on Trade and Investment, and in the negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Miguel holds a degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM).
